Seasoned Kannada Sandlewood actor Edekkalu Chandrashekher aka Chandru died today on 27th Jan 2018 at around 3:30 am in Canada. The reason of the death is massive heart attack (cardiac arrest). It was one more loss of Kannada Film Industry in less than 10 days after Kashinath. Edekkalu Chandrashekher worked in over 60 movies and was last seen in recently released movie 3 Ghante 30 Dina 30 Second which stars Arun Gowda and Kavya Shetty.

Edekkalu Chandrashekher was born in middle class family and was working with the Indian High Commission as a visa officer in Canada. He is survived by his mother, wife and a daughter. He passed away after several attempts were made to revive the actors pulse. More details about the exact reason of passing away of the actor is yet to be known and are expected to be learned as the day passes. Edekkalu Chandrashekher was associated with acting and Kannada film industry since his childhood. He used to do mono-acting and take part in stage plays. He was first appeared on screen in Namma Makkalu in 1969 when he was spotted by the late Nagendra Rao and Vadiraj. In Namma Makkalu, he played a child artiste role. The film ran more than 36 weeks at leading single screen theater in Bangalore. He performed so well that he got notified by various filmmakers and got various offers. He acted in a supporting role in BV Karanth and Girish Karnad's National Award-winning movie Vamsha Vriksha. He shot to fame as a lead actor in Edakallu Guddadamelewhich was directed by legendary filmmaker Putanna Kanagal and was released in 1973. He played the role of Nanjunda in the film. Due to the massive success of the film, the title Edakallu Guddadamele became his first name and he became more popular as Edakallu Guddadamele Chandrashekhar.

Thereafter, Chandrashekhar worked in several movies, including Sampathige Saval, Hamsageethe, Raja Nanna Raja, Maagiya Kanasu and Shankar Guru. He has done few shows in television as well which includes Yeradu Kanasu. Also, he shared screen space with Shiva Rajkumar in Shaivalingu and with Darshan Thoogudeepa in Chakravarthy.

After his marriage, Chandrashekhar moved to Canada and started working with the Indian High Commission as a visa officer. Nonetheless, his association with Kannada films never ended: He was taking out time to work in Sandalwood at every given opportunity. He made his debut as a filmmaker/director with Poorvapara and which was the first Kannada movie to be screened at the Toronto Film Festival in 2014. The film captures the feelings and emotions of a helpless mother who tries best to get her son back who leads a busy life style in America. The film was screened in many other foreign countries, including Australia.

Chandrashekhar had also directed the movie Kempamanna Court Case and was last seen in the recently released 3 Gante 30 Dina 30 Second. Kannada film industry is mourning the demise of Edekkalu Chandrashekher and has posted condolences message on social media.
